Hilary R. Luros is the founder and managing partner of Athena Law Group LLP, where she works with private and public technology companies ranging from start-ups to multinational organizations. Her practice focuses on technology, product, services, procurement, and development-related transactions across multiple sectors. A true counselor to her clients, Hilary advises them from inception to disposition by bringing her experience to the table to develop IP protection, licensing and business strategies that will optimize their IP assets. She is keenly aware of the ins and outs of seeking and obtaining venture financing as well as exploring business and exit strategies. Hilary is particularly proud that of the hundreds of clients she has represented over the past two decades, no transaction under her counsel has ever been subject to litigation.
Hilary started Athena Law Group because she believed (and still believes) that clients care about expertise and efficiency. In Hilary’s words, “A savvy client wants to know one thing: how efficiently will this deal get done?” To that end, her primary goal is to exceed her clients’ expectations when it comes to streamlining the transactions process. She encourages a collaborative approach, recognizing that not every point is a deal-breaker and that optimal negotiation is a process of give-and-take. She works to downplay egos, viewing a successfully concluded transaction as the hallmark of success.
Prior to establishing Athena Law Group, Hilary was a Senior Associate in the Technology Transactions Group of Cooley Godward LLP, where she honed her experience by drafting and negotiating licenses, developing sales and services agreements, preparing negotiation playbooks and privacy policies, and developing technology distribution relationships with both U.S. and international OEMS. Earlier in her career, she was General Counsel of Computrition, Inc., where she obtained experience in government and healthcare sectors. Computrition remains an Athena Law Group client to this day, spanning a professional relationship exceeding two decades.
When Hilary isn’t working on behalf of her clients, she stays busy being a wife to her inspirational husband, who is the managing partner of Data Collective Venture Capital, a VC firm specializing in big data, and a mother to her adorable, imaginative, and silly son and daughter. She finds time to exercise every day, because she is a firm believer that when her body is healthy, her mind works more efficiently. Over the past few years, she has served on the boards of several nonprofits in the area, and has chaired a number of successful fundraisers for these organizations.
